Lunar Lander Crash Causes Thousands of Water Bears to Stay on the Moon

Microscopic tardigrades were also present in the lunar library sent aboard the robotic Beresheet lander that crashed on the moon last April. According to Wired thousands of tiny water bears are scattered on the surface of the moon as these creatures have survived the explosive impact of the crash. Water bears are microscopic creatures measuring between 0.002 and 0.005 inches and are almost indestructible. In addition to this these tiny creatures also have the ability to dehydrate their bodies in to a condition known as tun. Therefore, water bears are able to survive conditions that no other form of life can survive. Scientists suggest that these water bears will not be able to colonize the moon as there is no atmosphere or liquid water on the lunar surface. Water bears can revive from their dehydrated condition even after 10 years or more. Therefore, as tardigrades can exist for extended periods on the moon scientists are happy that life can propagate all over the universe.

Scientists Have Developed a Method to Use Eggshells to Grow New Bones

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) have developed a method of growing new bones with microscopic particles of pulverized eggshells. Eggshells despite being fragile and thin can be used for making better bone grafts for humans. Eggshells for the most part have calcium carbonate a material already present in human bones therefore scientists believe that this material will be accepted by the human body. Not all bone grafts surgeries carried out around the world turn out to be successful therefore this discovery has given rise to a new hope to people suffering from bone problems.
