Space junk is blocking our view of the COSMOS

According to scientists the growing numbers of operational satellites of the space junk are blocking our view of the universe.  Researchers assert than 9,300 tons (8,440 metric tons) of space objects circling the earth are increasing the overall brightness of the night sky by 10 %. These space objects include inoperative satellites and rocket stages that can potentially ruin astronomical images by reflecting scattered sunlight.   The European Space Agency ESA had already proposed a solution to this problem in December 2019. The ESA plans to launch a four armed robot in 2025 to grab individual items of space junk.  Moreover, ESA’s Director General Johann –Dietrich Worner has setup new rules making companies and agencies that launch satellites responsible for tidying up their space garbage. Scientists are optimist that their paper will raise awareness in the astronomical community.
