Xbox One S vs Xbox One X – Worth the upgrade?

Microsoft announced their new console at E3, called the ‘Xbox One X’. It has a 6 teraflop GPU with 12 gigabytes of GDDR5 Ram. Currently, Xbox One X is the most powerful console in the console market, better than its predecessor. It also comes with native 4k support, HDR support and is the smallest Xbox ever made. Awesomely sleek! All accessories – apps and services from the previous Xbox One will be fully supported by the Xbox One X and the game library will be the same across the Xbox One family.

This raises one question, is it worth the upgrade? The Xbox One X comes with a price tag of $499 and will be released on November 7, 2017. The previous Xbox - Xbox One S, is half of price - for only $250. The question to ask is, with an increase in price, will one receive double the enjoyment?

Xbox One X offers a much superior visual fidelity and smooth, consistent gameplay. Even if you don’t own a 4k TV, the Xbox One X will render the game at a higher resolution and scale it back down to 1080p (super sampling anti-aliasing). Playing games on the Xbox One X will be a much more pleasant experience, than playing on Xbox One. However, it should be noted that people play consoles from their couches at a distance of 8-12ft. From that distance, the details in the game are not really that visible. Also, since all consoles are limited to their respective controllers, the latency (delay in ms) is quite huge and one does not notice the difference between 60fps and 30fps. And because their libraries are the same, you will not miss out on any new titles.

If you already own an Xbox One S, it is not worth it to upgrade right now. However, if you are looking to buy a new console, I would suggest you wait till the Xbox One X comes out.
